Michael Spratt

Michael received his B.Sc. (Hon) in Biology and Environmental Science from McMaster University in 2001.  Michael was called to the Bar in 2005 after attending law school at Dalhousie University and articling in Toronto at the well known criminal law firm Hicks Block Adams. 

Michael has appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal.  Whether before a judge or jury Michael’s primary focus is protecting the rights of his client.  Michael has argued cases ranging from simple assaults to complex murders.   

Michael’s courtroom presence and exacting cross-examinations are only matched by his accessibility and the attention he pays to the needs of his clients.

Michael was elected to the board of directors of the Criminal Lawyers Association in 2009 and has appeared on their behalf at numerous parliamentary committee hearings on proposed criminal law legislation.  Michael is also a member of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa.  Michael has devoted time to professional development as a guest instructor for the Criminal Trial Advocacy Course at Ottawa University, a coach for the University of Ottawa's Arnup Cup team, a presenter at the DCAO/CCLA Defence Lawyer Conference, and as an Instructor for the Ukraine Juvenile Justice Reform Project.
