Howard Krongold

Howard Krongold is a graduate of the University of King's College and Dalhousie University, where he was the recipient of a Law Foundation of Nova Scotia scholarship. After articling for Greenspan Humphrey Lavine in Toronto, he was awarded the Harold G. Fox Education Fund Scholarship, spending a year as a pupil-barrister at the Middle Temple in London, England.

Howard practices exclusively in the area of criminal law, with a particular emphasis on criminal appeals. He has argued appeals in the Supreme Court of Canada, and regularly appears before the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Howard is part of a panel of lawyers that is appointed by the Court of Appeal to appear as amicus curiae (“friend of the court”) to represents individuals with mental illness. He also represents clients charged with serious offences at the trial level.

Howard is a Director of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association, and has represented the organization in the Court of Appeal and before the Senate’s Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee.  He is also a member of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, and sits on the Criminal Law Advisory Committee for Legal Aid Ontario. In 2009-2010, Howard coached the University of Ottawa's Arnup Cup moot court team, and in 2010-2011 coached their Gale Cup moot court team.
